types of bamboo floors

Postby bob » Mon Jul 20, 2009 10:32 pm

I am thinking about using bamboo flooring in my home because I heard that it is an eco-friendly alternative to other types of hardwood flooring, but I don't know what style of bamboo floor is the best. I like the look of horizontal bamboo, but I heard from someone that stranded bamboo is harder. Will the horizontal just be covered in scratches in a matter of a couple of weeks? Also, there are some locking bamboos on the market now. Should I use that instead of the one that I need to glue down?

I would go with the horizontal solid bamboo. The stranded is much more expensive, and it is actually the by-product- the leftovers from making other types of bamboo floors. Floating bamboo (locking) is a bamboo veneer attached to a plywood carrier, so it is very little bamboo content. Unless you are very abusive to them, the horizontal will perform very well for you.
