Cleaning Hardwood Floors

Through the miracle of modern polyurethane finishes, hardwood floors are very easy to clean and maintain.
What works best for me is to use an ammonia free glass cleaner or a solution of vinegar and water. Use a spray bottle that dispenses the cleaner in a fine mist and spray a small section at a time. Next dry the floor going with the grain of the wood using either a wood floor mop, a Cuban mop, or a tack rag (a push broom with a towel wrapped around the head). Cleaning a glossy wood floor is like cleaning glass- use too much cleaner and it will streak, use not enough and it will look spotty.
Now, what not to do. Do not use any cleaner that contains wax or polishes (example: Murphy's Oil Soap or Mop and Glow). Do not use excessive amounts of water when cleaning the floor (wet mopping).
